In recent years, Shelby County has received a great deal of attention for having one of the highest infant mortality rates in the nation. In an effort to help alleviate this problem in our community, the Infant Life Success Initiative of HHCRC was birthed. HHCRC’s number one goal is to make a significant impact to the reduction of infant mortality within the community.
This program works diligently toward decreasing the highest rates in the country by collaborating with other social services agencies, providing referrals for prenatal care to at-risk mothers. ILS is also involved planning events such as the Infant Mortality Awareness Walk called iM Aware! to increase the public’s knowledge of infant mortality.
The following are a list of programs that are currently operating in the ILS Division:

Through partnerships established with Shelby County Health Department, Healthy Start Initiative; and Office of Early Childhood and Youth, Teen Plus, TMThe Baby Store serves a dual purpose in the community. TMThe Baby Store will link pregnant, new mothers, and new fathers with resources within the community, such as pregnancy testing and counseling, social services, home visitation programs, prenatal care programs, and other services that will ensure that women and children receive the care needed for a healthy woman and baby.

TMThe Baby Store will also provide new infant items to mothers and fathers in need. TMThe Baby Store hopes to expand its services to serve the needs of pregnant and new mothers participating in the various prenatal and infant programs throughout the community.
The Baby Store is located in the community services wing of the Hickory Ridge Mall Towne Centre, at 3745 S Hickory Ridge Mall, Suite 496, Memphis, TN 38115. For more information about classes and programs please call (901) 844-3926.

one-by-oneONE BY ONE
ILS programs seek to strengthen families by promoting healthy lifestyle changes, good health practices, responsible parenting skills and proper life survival skills. All these factors directly affect the life of a baby and are addressed in the One by One Mentoring program.
One by One is an innovative outreach program designed to mentor new and expectant mothers. Once a month, a mentor (volunteer) will meet with a mom for about an hour to build a baby book using the One by One curriculum. The curriculum is designed to equip the mentor (volunteer) to reach their new parents for Christ, build strong families, prevent child abuse, and educate families about the growth and development of their baby.
